AUCEi Co-Founders

Our co-founders are Roberta K. Weber and Cristina Preston.

Dr. Roberta Weber has been an international study abroad leader and innovator over several decades. As a member of ICT international organizations Dr. Weber has demonstrated her leadership abilities by coordinating national and international programs, editing journals and manuscripts, but has always taken time to lead immersive study abroad expeditions for graduate students. She has been a veteran of study abroad experiences since 1995 and coordinates study abroad initiatives for the Department of Curriculum, Culture, and Educational Inquiry, in the College of Education at Florida Atlantic University.

Dr. Christina Preston is the founder and current leader of MirandaNet.UK. Dr. Preston founded Mirandanet in 1992, as an e-community of practice for international ICT policy makers, teachers, teacher educators, researchers and commercial developers. Currently there are around 700 members in about 70 different countries worldwide who are passionate about digital technology in teaching and learning and about using technologies to promote cultural understanding and democratic participation.

AUCEi HISTORY

In 2010 a group of 50 educators, trainers, and leaders from 5 continents were identified as potential founding members of AUCEi. All of the members were interested in ubiquitous communication and global cultural issues. These 50 individuals were
invited to the first annual meeting in July, 2011. From this group will emerge the organization and procedures as AUCEi moves forward.
NEED for AUCEi

Telecommunication is allowing and in some cases almost forcing individuals to connect with colleagues and clients in a ubiquitous manner (that is, communication with everyone at any time). As the pressures of working across borders and into diverse cultures increase, one's communication abilities must be examined and adjusted so that maximum effectiveness can be obtained in the delivery of instruction.
